2009: Taking safety to the NEXT Level

Achieve:  Safety Conference 2009: Taking Safety to the NEXT Level.

Occupational Health and Safety are important values in all responsible companies. Good results in these fields are a prerequisite if you want to work in the offshore industry.

For some years now the emphasis in the industry has to a large degree been on behavioural safety for the individual. A good and responsible company of course looks after its people and prevents personal injuries. And the accident statistics have improved.

In recent years, however it has become evident that there are two sides to the coin: If your management system is not effective, if you do not ensure quality of processes, if you allow barriers to weaken – your assets and your personnel will be at risk – even if your accident statistics show good results.

Task Force ZERO and Danish Offshore Industry are pleased to invite you to our annual safety conference in Esbjerg. This conference will address the behavioural safety aspects as well as those of process safety.

This conference attracts delegates from the offshore industry as well as other industries and academia to discuss methods and to exchange of ideas on improvements in occupational health and safety in the offshore industry. Expert speakers from various parts of the industry will share their experiences on how to make work in the offshore business even safer.

A specially invited speaker this year was Professor Andrew Hopkins from Australia National University. Professor Hopkins is a world-renowned expert in the analysis of causes of major industrial accidents. His initial involvement came as an expert witness to the Commission of Inquiry upon the Longford refinery explosion, Professor Hopkins is the author of the widely read book “Lessons from Longford”. Most recently, he assisted on the BP Texas City accident investigation.

There were 190 participants at the safety conference in 2009.
